Built Heritage Investment Scheme (BHIS) 2026

The Built Heritage Investment Scheme (BHIS) 2026 offers a unique opportunity to secure funding for the preservation and conservation of important  structures.

This government grant scheme, funded by the National Built Heritage Service (NBHS), supports essential maintenance projects that help safeguard our architectural heritage and also aims to support the employment of skilled and experienced conservation professionals, craftspeople and tradespersons in the repair of the historic built environment.

Eligible projects can receive between €2,500 and €50,000, covering up to 80% of the total costs. Funding is available for a range of structures, including protected buildings, proposed protected buildings, those within Architectural Conservation Areas (ACAs), vernacular buildings, and historic shopfronts.

The scheme also incorporates streams for vernacular buildings and historic shopfronts, which were previously part of the Historic Structures Fund, as well as a ‘micro’ grant stream for works of routine maintenance and minor repairs.

Full details of the scheme and guidance on how to apply is available at https://www.gov.ie/en/department-of-housing-local-government-and-heritage/services/built-heritage-investment-scheme-bhis/
