Kerry County Council is in the final stages of preparing the heritage-led Integrated Urban Strategy for Tralee, developed as part of the THRIVE Town Centre First Heritage Revival Scheme. This comprehensive strategy examines both the development needs and the future potential of Tralee town centre, with a focus on fostering a more sustainable environment; promoting arts and heritage, strengthening community connections and further supporting long term economic resilience and regeneration.
As part of this process, a number of heritage buildings, streets and public spaces in the town centre have been identified as having significant potential for regeneration. These assets present valuable opportunities not only for adaptive reuse, but also for conservation, public realm improvements, and new uses that can reduce vacancy and dereliction while enhancing the overall vibrancy and appeal of the town centre.
The strategy also supports a funding application for the conservation-led restoration and upgrading of the Ashe Memorial Hall, a landmark heritage building in the heart of Tralee. This restoration would mark a significant step in revitalising the town’s historic fabric and supporting wider regeneration goals.
The Tralee THRIVE project is co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union through the ERDF Southern, Eastern and Midland Regional Programme 2021-2027.
The public consultation period is open until 4pm, 18th August 2025.
