Chapter 3 Core & Settlement Strategy

<span style="color:#333333">On behalf of the Executive of the North Kerry Football Board and following many years of numbers decline in our clubs and watching the depopulation and withdrawal of services within the North Kerry region we are writing to you to relay our objections to the continued and proposed ongoing exclusion of the North Kerry area in the County Development Plan 2022- 2028.&nbsp; We feel as an organization that the North Kerry region has been left behind, excluded from tourism, industry and I.T. development in the past County Development Plan and again in the proposed Development Plan.&nbsp; We have been seen useful as the designated areas for wind generated electricity </span>

<span style="color:#333333">The North Kerry Football Board do not agree with the Kerry County Councils planned exclusion of most of the county, particularly North Kerry from the Kerry Hub and the Kerry Knowledge Triangle, being the area designated by the Kerry County Council to locate future industry and future I.T.&nbsp; It is inequitable and unfair not to give equal opportunity to all areas of the county to prosper.&nbsp; North Kerry is identified as the most deprived area of the County. </span>

<span style="color:#333333">The North Kerry Football Board does not agree with the Kerry County Councils plan to increase the population inside the Kerry Hub, to the detriment of the rest of the county as this will result in more depopulation and loss of services in those areas out the hub.&nbsp; </span>

Rural Depopulation

The North Kerry Football Board requests that the County Development Plan takes into account rural depopulation, rural isolation and reduced services in rural areas.  Where possible the North Kerry Football Board  requests that all actions in the County Development Plan promote the development of rural communities both within and outside town and village boundaries and ensure those living  in rural areas and  working and who hope to work  remotely from home which has now been highlighted as a viable option following the impact on life from the Covid Pandemic, and for those workers who wish to return to their childhood communities in more isolated areas continue to receive the benefits associated with the development plan.

The provision of services, granting of planning permission, creation of employment and business opportunities can ensure that rural dwellers have the same opportunities and standard of living as those citizens that choose to live in cities and large urban settlements and in turn many families who have had to leave rural Ireland in the past have the opportunity to return.  This in turn will repopulate our villages and towns and in turn our football clubs here in North Kerry were numbers are falling not only in our clubs but also in our school populations.  This is evident to us  as an association with people on the ground in all areas of our community.
