Notice is hereby given, pursuant to Section 20(1) of the Planning & Development Act 2000 (as amended) that Kerry County Council being the Planning Authority of the County of Kerry, has produced a Draft Local Area Plan (LAP) for the Kenmare Municipal District. The Municipal District includes the settlements of:            

Regional Towns

Cahersiveen, Kenmare, Killorglin

District Towns

Sneem, Waterville

Villages

Baile an Sceilg, Beaufort, Chapeltown, Dún Géagáin, Glenbeigh, Kilgarvan, Knightstown, Portmagee 

Small Village Settlements

An Chillín Liath, An Gleann, Bonane, Caherdaniel, Castlecove, Cromane, Glencar, Kells, Kilgobnet, Lauragh, Tahilla, Templenoe & Tuosist

The new Kenmare Municipal District LAP will replace the existing West Iveragh LAP 2019-2025, the Killorglin Functional Area LAP 2010-2016, the Kenmare Functional Area LAP 2010-2016, and the Cahersiveen, Waterville & Sneem Functional Areas LAP 2013-2019.

Submissions or observations on the Draft Kenmare Municipal District Local Area Plan are hereby invited from the public and interested bodies. Children, or groups or associations representing the interests of children, are entitled to make submissions or observations. All written submissions or observations will be duly considered by the Planning Authority and taken into consideration before the making of the plan.

Submissions may be made during the period from Thursday 31st August until Friday 13th October 3rd November 2023 (closing date extended).

The Planning Authority has prepared environmental reports of the likely significant effects on the environment of implementing the Local Area Plan or amended plan and that submissions or observations in respect of the environmental reports made to the planning authority within the period specified in the notice will also be taken into consideration.

An Irish version of the Kenmare Municipal District Local Area Plan will be available after the plan is adopted.

The Draft Local Area Plan is available for inspection at the following locations:

Public Consultation Open Days

An additional open day to allow for further public engagement on the Draft Kenmare Municipal District Local Area Plan 2023-2029 will be held in The Royal Hotel, Knightstown from 3pm to 8pm on Wednesday 4th October 2023.

Members of the public and interest groups are invited to attend open days which will be held at the following locations:

Submissions

The plan making process is a collaborative one and we are looking for your views.

Kerry County Council hereby invites any interested parties to make submissions or observations regarding the Draft Kenmare Municipal District Local Area Plan 2023-2029, in writing or electronically via this website, to the Planning Authority between Thursday 31st August 2023 to Friday 13th  October 3rd November 2023 (both dates inclusive).

Submissions in writing are to be clearly marked with ‘Draft Kenmare Municipal District Local Area Plan’.

Please make your submission by one medium only i.e. in hard copy or via the website. Email submissions will not be accepted.

The deadline for receipt of all submissions is Friday 3rd November 2023

In respect of making a submission or observation please note the following:

  • YOU ARE STRONGLY ADVISED TO MAKE YOUR SUBMISSION AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE.
  • Submissions or aspects of submissions relating to the Environmental Reports (Environmental Report, Natura Impact Report, Strategic Flood Risk Assessment) should be clearly marked as such.
  • All submissions should include your name and a contact address, a map (where appropriate) and, where relevant, details of any organisation, community group or company etc., which you represent.
  • Please make your submission by one medium only, i.e. via the online portal or hard copy.
  • All submissions will form a part of the statutory Chief Executive’s report to be presented to the elected members of Kerry County Council.
  • Please be advised that all submissions received will be published online in accordance with the requirements of the Planning and Development Act, 2000 (as amended). You should ensure that no vexatious, libellous, or confidential information, including confidential information relating to a third party (in respect of which the third party has not, expressly, or implied in the circumstances, consented to its disclosure) is included in your submission. The Planning Authority reserves the right to redact any submission or part thereof that does not comply with this requirement. Please be advised that the submission will be published in full.
  • Please do not include personal, confidential or sensitive information in submissions.
  • Please note that all submission shall be published online within 10 working days of receipt.
  • LATE SUBMISSIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

You can use the menu on the right to choose what section of the plan you wish to view.

Under the respective settlements you will find a pdf which contains the text in relation to the settlement along with a pdf of the respective zoning map.

A pdf of the plan is available under 'Materials' in the menu.
