Submission to Note to Kerry County development plan 2022 – 2028

I refer to the County development plan for 2022 – 2028 which is under consultation.

In relation to the field development adjacent to Nagle Rice Primary School, in Milltown Co. Kerry on which a medical center and 30 dwelling houses are proposed.

Reason for objection to this development plan -

  1. Nagle Rice Primary school currently has very few parking places for parents  during collection and dropping off children, the parking facilities are totally insufficient and poses a serios heath hazard to children and parents – I personally had 2 incidents crossing the zebra crossing where drivers did not see myself or my son due to double parking.
  2. Nagle Rice Primary school is currently going through classroom expansion and with  further classrooms are planned, the student and teacher numbers will grow making the current situation worse.
  3. Nearby school housing estates are also having safety issues due to parents parking in these estates to collect children – making safe entrance to these estates a real challenge.
  4. Milltown population has increased over recent years and continues to grow – school numbers will continue to increase, will little or no safe collection/ drop off areas, this current safety concern if not addressed will result in an HSE incident.
  5. Planning permission for an extra 30 houses along with a medical in the field adjacent to the school makes no logical sense, this will escalate the traffic congestion around the school and in nearby estates.
  6. Can you confirm if a risk assessment has been concluded to identify these risks before submission in the county development plan?

Summary

The field adjacent to Nagle Rice Primary school should be kept for educational purposes only and no developments allowed besides educational related facilities and parking.

The wording of community should be removed from the development plan for this field.
