Chapter 13: Water & Waste Management
It is obvious that there is an urgent need for upgrading the waste waster system in Ballinskelligs as the curent system is in place since 1962 and was build for 300 household capacity . Many more holiday home estates (made up of 173 additional housing units ) and a large number of "once off"housing units have also been built and this coupled with businesses has placed enormous strain on the current system. Our area has a Blue Flag beach and this is an important asset to the area . Unless there is investment in the public system there is a high risk of pollution and the current capacity limits future investment .
We have been advised that nature based facilities in the form of the Integrated Constructed Wetland may prove useful in solving some of the problems and we would like to research by way of a feasibility study for this option with the support of Kerry Co Council . We have already had meetings with the officers and would like that this proposal be included in the Co Development Plan 2022- 2028.
