Litir Chumhdaigh

My name is Mr Johnnoel McCarthy, I am a fourth generation beef farmer with a young family who has lived in Portmagee all my life. I am looking to move away from farming and am hoping to open a pod park on land that would have been previously used for grazing cattle.

Chapter 2: Climate Change & Achieving a Sustainable Future

I understand the impact beef farming has on our environment and am looking to do my part to reduce the emissions from my farm. In this regard, I am proposing to reduce my herd and use my agricultural land to open a sustainable pod park. The area I live in, Portmagee, is a scenic area with many amenities which attracts visitors from both Ireland and abroad and with the Skelligs nearby there is at present not enough accommodation in Portmagee for the volume of tourists our area receives each year. As such, I believe a green pod park would be a valuable asset to the area all year round.
