Chapter 7: Housing for All

Submission for Folio KY7548 to be zoned residential in the upcoming County Development Plan

Dear Sirs,

I wish to make a submission for my land (folio KY7548) to be zoned residential in the upcoming County Development Plan.

As you are no doubt aware there is currently a massive demand for houses within the areas of Kenmare and Kilgarvan, and this demand simply cannot be met. As you are also aware Kenmare are not in a position to create further housing at the moment due to  their sewerage plant being at maximum capacity. Kilgarvan however, currently remains with capacity in our services, this includes having an adequate water supply. This site has full unobstructed and unobscured view and access on to the regional main road R569.

The land in question is within the village boundary, it is inside the 50km speed limit, it is a fully serviced site and was previously zoned residential. The site is in an ideal location to provide a natural increase to the Village of Kilgarvan with no gap. As previously stated there is already a significant unmet need for housing within Kilgarvan and the surrounding areas. As Kilgarvan provides an extremely central location, the creation of further housing within the area would not only alleviate the current housing crisis facing locals, but would also help substantially to sustain our local services such as our local preschool, National School, shops, etc. None of which will be possible without the creation of adequate housing within the area to satisfy the demand. That is why I urge you to take the above into consideration when making your decision. I hope that I have provided significant factual evidence to prove that zoning this land for residential development would be an asset to Kilgarvan and those hoping to live in it. Therefore, I hope that you will look favorably upon this submission, recognizing the dire need for adequate housing supply in the area.

Yours faithfully,

Fionán Hickey
