Chapter 12: Energy

I believe that North Kerry has shouldered more than it's fair share of the wind farm projects in the county to date.
Any areas previously "open to consideration" should all be closed and no future additional wind turbines/wind farms allowed to be added to these closed areas.

Any new areas proposed in this draft as "open to consideration" or "strategic areas" should have consultation in person with every household explaining the pros and cons of any change to the zoning in the proposed effected areas, as we don't want to relive the mistakes made in the 2012 County Development Plan.

While it is well advertised this time, there are still many people unaware of what the County Development Plan is not to mind the consequences the impact of changes would have on their locality, so proper consultation and education is vital.

Areas that have previously been zoned as "areas of little or no scenic value" should be reclassified as "areas of importance" eg Ballybunion etc in the interest of tourism.

I totally oppose any battery storage facility within 5km of any residential property. The dangers of lithium batteries are well documented. As well as the risk of explosion the fumes omitted can be highly toxic which poses a risk to life, flora and fauna and cause environmental damage.

No solar farm what so ever should be permitted in any area until all Southfacing roof spaces have been fully utilised on both public and private buildings.

I would appreciate it if you would consider my submission and take my views into account when drafting the new County Development Plan.
