NOTICE OF KERRY COUNTY COUNCIL’S DRAFT LOCAL AUTHORITY CLIMATE ACTION PLAN 2024-2029

Notice is hereby given that Kerry County Council has, pursuant to Section 16 of the Climate Action and Low Carbon Development (Amendment) Act 2021, prepared a Draft Local Authority Climate Action Plan 2024-2029.

The Draft Climate Action Plan relates to the County of Kerry.  It sets out how the local authority can promote a range of mitigation, adaptation and other climate action measures, to help deliver on the national climate obligations and the Government’s overall National Climate Objective, which seeks to pursue and achieve, by no later than the end of 2050, the transition to a climate resilient, biodiversity rich, environmentally sustainable and climate neutral economy.

Public Consultation

The Council are seeking and inviting views from the public to help inform the final stages of the Climate Action Plan 2024-2029.  A public consultation is being held on the draft Plan and the accompanying environmental reports, from Thursday the 19th of October to Friday the 1st of December (both days inclusive) 2023.  

Kerry County Council’s Draft Climate Action Plan, the Strategic Environmental Assessment Environmental Report and Appropriate Assessment Natura Impact Report, will be on display and available for public inspection for the above dates on this public consultation portal and at the following locations: 

• At the Public Planning Counter, County Buildings, Rathass Tralee, (during normal working hours Monday to Friday, excluding Bank Holidays),

• At the following Council Branch Libraries during their normal opening hours (excluding Bank Holidays):

  • Tralee
  • Dingle /Leabharlann Dhaingean Uí Chúis
  • Ballybunion
  • Killorglin
  • Killarney,
  • Caherciveen
  • Castleisland
  • Kenmare, and
  • Listowel

Public Consultation Drop-in Event

Members of the public and interested groups are invited to meet the Climate Action Team to discuss the plan at the following locations:

Making A Submission

You are invited to make a submission or observation on the plan and accompanying environmental reports, between Thursday the 19th of October to Friday the 1st of December (both days inclusive) 2023, via the following two options only:

ONLINE

A written submission can be made electronically through the Council’s Online Public Consultation Portal: https://consult.kerrycoco.ie (up to 11.59pm on Friday the 1st of December);

 

OR

IN WRITING TO

The Climate Action Unit, Kerry County Council, Woodland Industrial Estate, Killarney, Co. Kerry, V93XF98.

Submission should be marked ‘Kerry County Council Draft Local Authority Climate Action Plan 2024-2029’.

(No later than 5.00pm on Friday the 1st of December 2023)

 

NOTE: Please make your submission by one medium only i.e. post/online. Email submissions will not be accepted.  

In respect of making a submission or observation, please note the following:

    • YOU ARE STRONGLY ADVISED TO MAKE YOUR SUBMISSION AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE
    • Submissions or observations should include your name and address and, where relevant, details of any organisation, community group or company etc. which you represent,
    • Children, or groups or associations representing the interests of children, are particularly encouraged to make submissions or observations,  
    • Submissions or aspects of submissions relating to the Environmental Reports (SEA Environmental Report and Natura Impact Report) should be clearly marked as such,
    • Please make your submission by one medium only, i.e. via the online portal or hard copy,
    • Please be advised that all submissions received will be published online within 5 working days of receipt of the submission.  You should ensure that no vexatious, libelous, or confidential information, including confidential information relating to a third party (in respect of which the third party has not, expressly, or impliedly in the circumstances, consented to its disclosure) is included in your submission.  Kerry County Council reserves the right to redact any submission or part thereof that does not comply with this requirement. Please be advised that the submission will be published in full/and/or with redactions within 5 working days of receipt of the submission,
    • Written submissions or observations with respect to the Draft Plan that are made within the period stated, will be taken into consideration before the making of the Plan,
    • Please note LATE submissions or observations will not be considered. You are strongly advised to make your submission or observation as early as possible, and 
    • All submissions will form a part of a statutory report by the Chief Executive that will be presented to the elected members of Kerry County Council.

Please be advised that your submission will be published in full/and/or with redactions within 5 working days of receipt of the submission.
