Tuairimí

Chapter 5: Rural Housing

Lyreacrompane was once a vibrant community with a vast population of all age groups.  However in recent years we have found our population to be mainly of an older generation.  Therefore we as a community focused organisation, catering to all age groups, hope to see a revival of our community as soon as possible.

Lyreacrompane Community Development see our partnership with Lyreacrompane National School as an important part for the planning of the future of our area.  We acknowledge the school as being a pillar of our community and therefore support them where ever possible e.g. providing facilities for activities and school meals on a weekly basis.

Of recent times the numbers in the school have greatly decreased.  We believe this has been the result of a lack of housing availability and also the restricted granting of planning permission for potential families moving to our area.  We believe the community is in danger of serious decline.  As an organisation we have taken the steps to fund a preschool on the school grounds in the hopes that this would benefit the families in our locality and surrounding areas.  We would envisage that it would also act as a feeder for the National School.  However, we as a community can only do so much and now feel we need the support of Kerry County Council in providing housing for our area in order to attract families and future residents, to guarantee its existence for generations to come.

Chapter 10: Tourism & Outdoor Recreation

Lyreacrompane has alot of recreational facilities already in place.  These facilities are available free of charge and cater to all age groups.  They comprise of  a riverwalk, mountain and bog walks, playground, outdoor adult exercise space, community field, walking track for day time and night time, basketball and tennis courts.  All recreational facilities are up and running and are maintained by different groups in the community. These facilities would be of great benefit to any housing development if it were to come to the Lyreacrompane area.

Chapter 14: Connectivity

Although we are a rural area, we have access to high quality digital infrastructure through the availability of fibre broadband throughout the area.  This would be suitable for people working or studying from home.  This would be an incentive to families to move to the area as it would provide a means of digital communication and connectivity, not only to their work but also to the rest of the world.  As the world is turning to a hybrid way of working, Lyreacrompane would be ideal due to its central location between Tralee, Castleisland, Listowel and Abbeyfeale.  We would encourage Kerry County Council to look at planning for housing in our area.
