Lyreacrompane Community Development

Chapter 5: Rural Housing

Lyreacrompane was once a vibrant community with a vast population of all age groups.  However in recent years we have found our population to be mainly of an older generation.  Therefore we as a community focused organisation, catering to all age groups, hope to see a revival of our community as soon as possible.

Lyreacrompane Community Development see our partnership with Lyreacrompane National School as an important part for the planning of the future of our area.  We acknowledge the school as being a pillar of our community and therefore support them where ever possible e.g. providing facilities for activities and school meals on a weekly basis.

Of recent times the numbers in the school have greatly decreased.  We believe this has been the result of a lack of housing availability and also the restricted granting of planning permission for potential families moving to our area.  We believe the community is in danger of serious decline.  As an organisation we have taken the steps to fund a preschool on the school grounds in the hopes that this would benefit the families in our locality and surrounding areas.  We would envisage that it would also act as a feeder for the National School.  However, we as a community can only do so much and now feel we need the support of Kerry County Council in providing housing for our area in order to attract families and future residents, to guarantee its existence for generations to come.
